Group Trauma Debriefing:

Group Trauma Debriefing is used when a group of people have experienced the same traumatic event. The goal of Group Debriefing is to:

  • Offer support.
  • Normalize reactions.
  • Prevent future problems.
  • Provide information on when to seek additional support.
  • Provide coping mechanisms.
  • Assess whether anyone needs additional counselling.

Due to the nature of traumatic events, there is a lack  of research into the efficacy of and best practices for Group Trauma Debriefing. The process you will learn in this workshop takes into account the findings of what research there is, and was developed to minimize any potential for harm.

The workshop will teach you a modular approach to Group Trauma Debriefing that the characteristics of each group into account. Since traumatic experiences often result in feelings of helplessness, consent and restoration of agency is a prime consideration in this approach.

Who can Attend?

This workshop is suitable for anyone who works with traumatized groups in a helping capacity. Counsellors, coaches, psychologists, social workers and lay counsellors are all welcome.
